August 17, 2026 – First it was a really weird sound. What the HECK was that? It sounded like a flock of geese on steroids, or something. A few minutes later I looked out my office window and saw two swans on the pond. I grabbed my Nikon and went out to the top of the hill above the pond and started clicking away. I took a few steps and more clicking. Then I noticed the black beaks. What?? Trumpeter Swans??!! No way! A few more steps and they were getting wary. I whispered, hello, welcome to our little pond, don’t be afraid of little ol me. I just want to get a pretty picture of you two. I was still no where near them but the few more steps I took they decided they weren’t having it and away they went. Sorry!! So Gorgeous!
I double checked Merlin and sure enough, that was what I had heard earlier, their VERY loud and odd trumpeting. (All About Birds: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Trumpeter_Swan)
